PROJECT DESCRIPTION

This wooded parcel, which abuts the existing Cuba Marsh owned by the Forest Preserve District, has been developed into a 55-acre park that retains its forest-like environment.  The project approach called for preserving the property in much of its natural state while introducing improvements, including an extensive trail system, open fields, a pavilion with public toilets and concessions, picnic shelters, a gazebo, a children’s playground, tennis and basketball courts, a warming shelter and a maintenance facility. An outdoor amphitheater which utilizes the natural terrain as a seating area was also built. Buildings and site weer developed to minimize the impact to the environment utilizing green building practices including passive energy, basic materials, natural planting, bioswales and filtration basins.
