Old Town Park and Museum
Bloomingdale, Ill.
Old Town
Park's museum building was established as
a Baptist Church in 1849 and has since
been utilized as a school, a township
headquarters and village hall. The
District acquired the building in the
1960's and later turned it into the
Bloomingdale Park District Museum. The
District's Old Town Park underwent
additions and renovations including a
gazebo and fountain. The improvements were
received enthusiastically by not only the
Park District, but the community as well.

Skokie Park District
Oakton Community Center
Skokie, IL
The Skokie Park District's Oakton Community Center mimics its surrounding residential neighborhoods by incorporating a similar one-story character on its eastern façade. The structure builds to 2 stories at the main entry, with open volumes of exposed wood structure throughout. Program elements include an indoor children's "Exploratorium" playground, senior center, general activity rooms and other open spaces. The existing 5,000-square-foot multi-use room was fully remodeled as an integral program element within the overall building design. Consistently utilized more than others in the area, Oakton Community Center is a highlight of Skokie Park District's public service facilities.

Skokie Park District
Weber Leisure Center
Skokie, Ill.
Completed in September 1995, the Weber Leisure Center includes the Park District's Administrative Headquarters and a large
multi-purpose gymnasium in a 76,000 S.F. addition surrounding their existing skating rink facility. Additional facilities
include a Health and Fitness Club, Dance Aerobics Studio, and Running Track around the second floor of the gymnasium. Energy
efficient windows, skylights, sloped glazing and trellises provide dynamic forms, both inside and outside, and contribute to
the overall cost effectiveness of the structure.
The Weber Leisure Center was nominated for one of the 1997 American Institute of Architects' Northeast Illinois Chapter's "Distinguished Building Awards."

An addition on the original one-story
structure provided a cost-effective design
solution.
This new design reflects the facility's public status while it blends harmoniously into the park setting and activities.
A two-story entry way welcomes patrons into the reception area and supports the flow of customers within the facility. Features include a large gymnasium with a divider for volleyball and basketball, an exercise and weights room, dance studio, locker rooms, multi-purpose and seniors room, preschool, administrative offices, and a concession area with access to the ball field patrons. |
